The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says 45-year-old Kyle Kepler confronted 31-year-old Thomas Griffin and his wife.
“The confrontation escalated when Mr. Kepler pointed a firearm at them, in which Mr. Griffin shot and killed Mr. Kepler,” MCSO said.
Griffin and his wife stayed at the scene after the shooting and are cooperating with the investigation…

Just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, a Fourth of July celebration led to a dispute between neighbors that erupted into gunfire.
Cell phone video shared by a neighbor clearly shows a man standing at his front door firing the first shot into a crowd of people next door.
Those victims then returned fire, leading to a shootout that left one woman dead…
The neighbor who fired the first shot was hospitalized and faces possible criminal charges…

The shooting happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the Essex Food Store on High Street, police said.
Employees told officers the man was attempting to steal items from the store, and was shot after he got into an altercation with them. The man, 27-year-old Rahsaan Nixon, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Portsmouth police spokeswoman Elexcia Washington confirmed that Nixon was shot by a store employee, whom police did not identify. No charges have been filed and the incident remains under investigation, she said. Store employees declined to comment Friday…

The doors were boarded up, and a sign told customers that the dispensary Bodega Boyz, near 61st and Memorial, was closed on Friday.
Police said early in the morning, someone wearing a ski mask broke into the business,
The sound of breaking glass woke the owner, who was sleeping inside the store.
Police said the owner told them Bodega Boyz had a burglary the night before, so the owner and his girlfriend were staying the night there on guard.
“They armed themselves and fired upon the person breaking into the dispensary,” said Captain Richard Meulenberg.
He said the man was shot several times but is expected to live.
Meulenberg said under Oklahoma law, people have the right to use deadly force if someone tries to break into a home, business, or place of worship…

Memphis Police said it all started after the man went inside the BP gas station near East Shelby Drive and Hickory Hill Road to get some food. As he walked back to his Dodge Charger, an armed suspect pointed a gun at him and said, “Give me your keys and car,” police said.
That was when the car owner pulled out his own firearm from his hip and fired up to six shots at the suspect, police said. The man told investigators that he believes he shot the suspect in the face and that the suspect fired as many as 25 shots at him.

Anderson police confirmed the shooter has not been arrested and the prosecutor said he does not expect to file any criminal charges in this case.
The violence took place just before 10 p.m. Monday in downtown Anderson.
While walking down the sidewalk along 9th Street, investigators believe a 51-year-old local businessman was playing a Pokémon-style scavenger hunt on his phone when a complete stranger ambushed him.
“Just about a block from the courthouse he was approached by a homeless person who punched him in the face and stole his cell phone,” said Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings.
Cummings said that is when the robbery victim pulled out his gun in a parking lot along 9th Street and killed 43-year-old Michael Piercy, just a few hundred feet away from the Madison County Courthouse…
While the robbery suspect wasn’t armed at the time of the shooting, Indiana law does allow people to defend themselves from a physical attack…

Arthur Rainey III, 38, of Los Angeles, died in the apparent exchange of gunfire that occurred around 9 p.m. July 8 at Carlies Bar in the 4900 block of Long Beach Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police said Rainey and 42-year-old Bellflower resident Malcolm Gibson went into the bar with the intent to “assault a bar patron.”
The pair allegedly entered the bar and began shooting at the patron, who was also armed and returned fire, police said.
Rainey was struck by gunfire and died at the scene, police said.
The bar patron who was attacked by the pair was shot in the lower body and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
“Suspect Gibson fled the scene in a vehicle with a third suspect identified as Michelle Youngblood, a 43-year-old resident of Long Beach,” according to police, “Detectives also found that Gibson and Youngblood participated in a robbery of the same victim (bar patron) approximately 10 days prior.”…

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka told 27 News in a written statement officers with the Topeka Police Department (TPD) were called just after 11 p.m. on July 10 to a shooting in the 200 block of NW Independence Avenue. Law enforcement was told an individual entered a local business after it had closed for the day.
The individual allegedly pulled out a weapon and began threatening staff. This prompted staff to shoot the individual who then fled the area, eventually arriving at a local hospital…

Cincinnati police say a woman was in her vehicle in the 3500 block of Reading Road when two other women came up to her with rocks and began attacking her.
An officer at the scene said the female driver acted in self defense and shot the two women.

Prosecutors have rejected Chicago police efforts to file felony charges in connection with a fatal shooting in Little Village, concluding the shooter acted in self-defense.
CWBChicago has secured video of the shooting, which occurred late on July 12 in the 2600 block of South Ridgeway.
In the video, Guillermo Ramos, 31, is seen walking up to a large passenger van that is idling in a parking space. He appears to be holding an ice cream in his left hand as he forcefully opens the van’s passenger door and exchanges words with people inside the vehicle…
The video shows a man with Ramos walking up behind the group of men and punching one of them in the head as they move toward the van.
Within a split second, a member of the group turns around and shoots Ramos at close range…
As the video ends, the shooter disappears around the corner as Ramos lies on his stomach near the curb, gravely wounded. He died several hours later…
A source familiar with the investigation said prosecutors concluded that the shooter, who reportedly had a concealed carry license, acted in self-defense when he shot Ramos…

Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the store on Brockport-Spencerport Road in the town of Sweden shortly after noon Sunday for a report of two people fighting.
Investigators determined a man had left the store with a large amount of meat he didn’t pay for, and a witness approached the suspect in the parking lot.
Police said the suspect displayed a sharp object, prompting the witness who intervened to draw his legally registered handgun.
The suspect then reportedly fled the area and hasn’t been found…

Detectives said a witness confronted Francois and Cruz as they were breaking into a parked vehicle. The teens were wearing all black clothing and face coverings. The witness saw Cruz move his hand into his waistband as if to reach for a weapon. The witness then shot Cruz.

A Town’s County resident helped catch a trustee from a Towns County work detail who had been on the run Thursday.
A social media post by the Towns County Sheriff’s Office Friday said Bruce Douglas Partin, Jr., age 39, was spotted by a resident at around 5:15 p.m. on Fodder Creek Road in the Gander Gap area. He had reportedly been on the run since Monday.
Almost two hours later, another resident, Steven Kirby, was inside his home near Fodder Creek when he heard his dog Odie aggressively alerting him of a person outside the home.
According to the sheriff’s office, Kirby grabbed his weapon, went outside and was immediately confronted by Partin. He then ordered the suspect to the ground and Partin complied.
Kirby’s wife Amy called 911 and deputies arrested Partin at around 7:10 p.m…

A 43-year-old man was at Christopher Morley Park with his Belgium Dutch Shepherd when it turned on him and began to viciously attack him, police said.
Fearing for his life, the owner fired one round at the dog; the canine, who was off-leash at the time, succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.
The man suffered lacerations to his left arm and left leg; he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.
The owner has a license pistol permit, police said.
No other injuries were reported.

Police responded to Soulard where two victims described being approached near 9th Street and Russell Boulevard at 1:30 a.m. July 20.
The victims, both 24 years old, said four people in dark clothing and ski masks walked up to their parked car. Police say one of the people reached into the vehicle through a window and began removing items belonging to the victims while another person stood behind the victims’ car holding a rifle.
One of the people attempted to open the victims’ car door, when the passenger in the car shot the suspect, police say.

Seattle police said an armed good Samaritan saved a pregnant woman. The Seattle Police Department (SPD) reported he came to the rescue of the woman during a domestic violence incident and shot her attacker. It happened Sunday morning at about 10:30 at West Seattle’s Lincoln Park.
“An adult male witness, that was armed with a gun, he intervened on an in-progress domestic violence assault of a pregnant woman inside a vehicle,” SPD Officer Eric Munoz said.
Police said the woman managed to get out of the vehicle. The man shielded her from her attacker and tried to retreat while protecting the pregnant woman as the suspect kept moving toward them.
“The armed male retreated approximately 40 or 50 yards into the park, telling the suspect to basically back away and stop pursuing them,” Officer Munoz said. “Ultimately, the male shot the suspect while he was protecting the felony DV victim. And this woman was four months pregnant at the time.”
The suspect was shot once in the hip and taken to the hospital. He’s alive and is expected to be charged with Felony domestic violence assault, reported police.
SPD said the woman was not seriously injured. The good Samaritan waited for police to arrive and is said to be cooperating.

A Wauwatosa father of four is recovering from serious injuries in the hospital after he was attacked at the gas pump during an attempted carjacking last week.
It happened near Mayfair Road and Capitol Drive in Wauwatosa at 3 a.m. Friday, July 26.
Friends said 39-year-old Jeremy Dill, also known as “JD,” was driving for Uber that night and was filling up his car with gas at the Currie Park auto shop and gas station. That’s when, according to Wauwatosa police, five people pulled up, and tried to steal his car at gunpoint.
Authorities said Dill pulled his own gun and exchanged gunfire with the group…
Morgan said one of the five attackers shot Dill in the torso, then sped away with the group in another car…
The group led Wauwatosa police on a chase, eventually crashing into a sign at 108th and Congress Streets moments later…
Wauwatosa police said officers arrested one 18-year-old man after the chase Friday, but said they are still looking for the four others involved…

The incident happened at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday in the 1200 block of 41st Street in the city’s Parkside neighborhood.
Twenty-six-year-old Wayne Hamm was injured in the shooting. He told Action News over the phone that he simply could not believe both of the suspects who attacked him were only 16 years old…
Hamm says a scuffle quickly ensued with two 16-year-olds, during which one of the attackers opened fire. Hamm then pulled out his weapon and fired as well.
One of the attackers was hit repeatedly, the other fled the scene.
Somehow, despite being shot in the back and the arm, Hamm was able to run away as well…

A Houston-area middle school teacher is being hailed as a hero for springing into action to save a young girl who was being attacked by a man in east Houston…
Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigators said it happened just before midnight on July 28. They said a 15-year-old girl was followed by a man when she got off a METRO bus near an apartment complex on Woodforest Boulevard just north of I-10 between Normandy Street and Uvalde Road on Houston’s east side.
David Garza said he didn’t think twice when he heard cries for help that night.
“I looked out the window and I saw a man beating up a woman on the ground … trying to take her clothes off,” he said.
He said he grabbed his gun and knew exactly what he had to do. Video caught the moment Garza jumped out of his apartment to help.
“I ran outside, asked what’s going on. The girl screamed, ‘I’m 15, help me!’ I pointed the gun at him and told him to get off her,” Garza said.
He said the suspect had her by the hair.
“He took his hands off right away. He went chasing after her, I went chasing after him and she got away,” he said…

An investigation has since determined that Johnson and the other driver got into a road rage incident while headed south on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294). The quarrel continued as they got off and ended up on Irving Park Road, where both vehicles stopped next to each other for traffic, police said.
While the cars were stopped next to each other, Johnson got out of his car and proceeded toward the Chevrolet, police said. Once there, both Johnson and the other man brandished guns, and shots were exchanged, police said.
Johnson was struck in the upper body, police said. The other man and the people in his vehicle were not struck, police said.
After reviewing all evidence, authorities determined that the driver who shot and killed Johnson had acted in self-defense. He also had both a Firearm Owners Identification card and a Concealed Carry License, and he will not be charged, police said.

Throughout the investigation, the sheriff’s office said on X, formerly known as Twitter, detectives learned the decedent approached a person on scene and displayed a firearm. The decedent then returned to his pickup and proceeded to drive the vehicle down the pier, with bystanders present.
While driving down the pier, a bystander fired multiple rounds at the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. The vehicle became stuck on a gate halfway down the pier.
Shortly after 11:40 a.m. Friday, the sheriff’s office said they determined the death investigation at the Bokeelia Pier is not suspicious and no person involved is facing charges…
