A gunman opened fire at the CDC, targeting a location where victims were banned from carrying firearms. Like other federal facilities, the CDC prohibits people from bringing guns onto its grounds. The attack took place next to Emory University. Police believe the shooter was either sick or thought he was sick and blamed the illness on the Covid-19 vaccine.
One police officer died and another was wounded, and as our research has demonstrated, uniformed police officers have a particularly dangerous job in stopping these active shooting attacks.
A police officer is dead, and the alleged gunman was killed, during a shooting Friday afternoon near the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) campus in Atlanta, as nearby Emory University told students to shelter in place and activated its emergency protocols. . . .
Just before 5 p.m. an unidentified man opened fire in front of the CDC campus, shooting multiple rounds into CDC buildings, according to Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum. . . .
“A courageous local law enforcement officer gave their life, and another was injured, after a gunman opened fire on at least four CDC buildings,” she said in a statement. “DeKalb County police, CDC security, and Emory University responded immediately and decisively, helping to prevent further harm to our staff and community.” . . .
With exceptions for law enforcement, authorized members of the armed forces, it is illegal to possess a firearm or other dangerous weapon at a federal facility. Other exceptions such as for hunting are relevant for the CDC facilities.
