American Airlines is making significant strides in enhancing its customer experience at Miami International Airport (MIA) with a major investment in expanding and upgrading its lounge offerings. The airline is set to build a new, state-of-the-art Flagship® lounge while expanding its existing Admirals Club® lounge spaces. This expansion will nearly double the available lounge space at MIA, providing American Airlines passengers with an elevated and exclusive airport experience.
Currently, American Airlines offers three different lounge spaces at MIA: an Admirals Club® lounge at Concourse D, along with Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges at Concourse D30. The new project will involve converting the existing Flagship® lounge, which has been in operation since 2017, into an expanded Admirals Club® lounge. Additionally, a brand-new Flagship® lounge will be constructed, offering premium amenities and services to American’s most discerning travelers.
“We’re excited to expand and elevate the premium experience for our Flagship® customers and also provide a more spacious and calming environment in our Admirals Club® lounges,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “Our strong partnership with airport leaders and county officials has allowed us to identify solutions that will make our customers’ experience even better, and we’re eager to work with them in building out this enhanced space.”
The Flagship® lounge is renowned for its luxurious offerings, including a champagne greeting upon arrival, locally inspired menus, and à la carte dining options that cater to the sophisticated tastes of premium passengers. With the upcoming changes, passengers traveling through MIA will experience even more expansive and upgraded lounge spaces, with distinct “neighborhoods” designed to meet the diverse needs of American Airlines customers.
Key features of the new lounges will include:
- Comfortable Seating: A relaxing area to unwind before a flight, with spacious, comfortable seating options for every type of traveler.
- Bar and Dining: A fully stocked bar and gourmet dining area where travelers can connect with fellow passengers or enjoy a meal in a stylish setting.
- Villas: Private spaces designed for relaxation and mental rejuvenation, including spa-style shower suites, workstations, and a family-friendly room for those traveling with children.
- High-Speed Wi-Fi and Power Outlets: Business travelers can take advantage of the high-speed internet and plenty of charging stations, allowing them to remain productive during their airport stay.
- Curated Artwork: The lounges will feature local and culturally significant artwork that enhances the overall ambiance and creates a sense of place, bringing a piece of Miami’s culture into the travel experience.
- Family-Friendly Spaces: In addition to areas designed for individual relaxation, the lounges will provide family-friendly spaces to accommodate all passengers, ensuring that every traveler’s needs are met.
In addition to the lounge expansions, American Airlines continues to grow its presence in Miami, the airline’s international gateway to Latin America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. As Miami’s largest private employer with more than 14,500 team members, American Airlines remains deeply committed to the city and its passengers. The airline is also operating its largest-ever summer schedule from MIA, showcasing its dedication to serving both domestic and international travelers. This commitment is further highlighted by the recent launch of new service between MIA and Rome (FCO), which adds to the airline’s already impressive network of exclusive, non-stop routes.
“Building on more than three decades of investment in greater Miami, this is yet another milestone that solidifies Miami as a world-class destination and American as its hometown airline. Miami is our international gateway, where we serve more than 30 million customers annually — and growing — with more than 400 peak daily flights to 160+ destinations,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of MIA Operations. “The lounge experience plays a key role in enhancing that travel journey, offering a quiet and comfortable respite from the busy terminal, which is why we are so eager to give our Miami customers — including those connecting through our hub — new and improved spaces to relax, work and play.”
American Airlines’ investment in the Miami community extends beyond the construction of its lounges. The airline has a 35-year history as Miami’s hometown airline, and the upcoming lounge expansions demonstrate a continued focus on customer satisfaction. These upgrades also align with American’s broader strategy of providing a world-class airport experience for its passengers.
To access the expanded lounge network, American Airlines offers various membership options for eligible travelers. Admirals Club® access is available through an Admirals Club® membership, qualifying oneworld® status, or the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive credit card. Additionally, customers can purchase a One Day Pass for \$79 or redeem 7,900 AAdvantage® miles for 24-hour access. For international travelers in Flagship® cabins, access to the Flagship® lounge is available, with single visit passes offered at \$150 or 15,000 AAdvantage miles.
American’s AAdvantage® program continues to provide an accessible way for loyal members to enjoy the benefits of its premium lounges. Members with Platinum® status or higher, along with non-AAdvantage® oneworld® Emerald and Sapphire members on qualifying international itineraries, are entitled to visit the Flagship® lounge.
This investment in Miami International Airport is yet another example of American Airlines’ commitment to providing world-class services and fostering a premium travel experience for its customers. The new lounges will serve as a showcase for the airline’s dedication to enhancing every aspect of the passenger journey, from check-in to departure. With the Miami lounge expansions, American Airlines is not only elevating its airport experience but also reinforcing its position as a leading global carrier.
