India Expands Railway Network With Direct Train From Gwalior to Bengaluru Making Intercity Travel Easier for Students Professionals and Long-Distance Passengers

A major breakthrough in long-distance railway connectivity was achieved this week with the introduction of a new direct express train linking Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh to Bengaluru in Karnataka. The newly launched service, inaugurated on Thursday via a virtual ceremony by India’s Union Railway Minister, marks a significant step in expanding travel options between central and southern India.

A Direct Connection Without Transfers

For decades, travelers from Gwalior and nearby regions had to rely on indirect routes—often requiring stopovers at cities like Bhopal, Kota, or Bina—to reach Bengaluru. The launch of this dedicated train eliminates that challenge entirely. With a direct connection now in place, passengers will no longer need to change trains or book multiple tickets for a single journey, significantly simplifying travel and reducing overall journey fatigue.

This new express service caters specifically to the growing demand for efficient travel options among students, job seekers, working professionals, and families commuting between the two regions.

Weekly Schedule Designed for Convenience

The Gwalior–Bengaluru Express will operate once a week, departing from Gwalior every Friday at 3:00 PM and reaching Bengaluru on Sunday morning at 7:35 AM. The return journey will leave Bengaluru every Sunday at 3:50 PM and arrive in Gwalior by Tuesday morning at 10:25 AM. The journey takes approximately 30 hours, covering a long stretch of India’s diverse landscape, and offering a smoother, uninterrupted travel experience.

This schedule has been intentionally planned to provide weekend mobility, especially beneficial for students heading back to hostels or professionals traveling for Monday work commitments.

Comfortable Travel with Enhanced Capacity

The express train consists of 22 coaches, making it well-equipped to handle a large number of passengers each week. The coach composition is designed to accommodate different travel preferences and budgets, including general seating, sleeper coaches, and air-conditioned options.

With its upgraded design and comfortable seating, the service aims to provide a relaxed travel experience even during the long 30-hour journey. Indian Railways has assured passengers that safety, cleanliness, and onboard services will be maintained to high standards.
