The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), in collaboration with the Japan Association of Travel Agents, organized a visit for 25 travel trade delegates from Tokyo and Osaka to Macao from December 5 to 8. The trip aimed to foster familiarity with the region’s tourism offerings, facilitate business partnerships, and explore new opportunities tailored to Japanese visitors.

Travel Mart Boosts Business Discussions and Collaboration

The visit included the MACAO.JAPAN (Tokyo & Osaka) Travel Mart on December 6, which saw around 70 industry professionals from Macao engage in dynamic discussions with the Japanese delegates. The event brought together representatives from travel agencies, airlines, hotels, and other tourism-related sectors in Macao, encouraging a direct exchange of ideas on enhancing travel products and services for the Japanese market.

Unveiling New Tourism Products for Japan’s Market

During the visit, delegates explored key attractions across the Macao Peninsula, Taipa, and Coloane, providing them with an up-to-date understanding of Macao’s diverse tourism resources. The itinerary included iconic spots such as the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macao, the Macao Grand Prix Museum, MinM Plaza, and Rua do Cunha in Taipa, along with local culinary experiences. The tour offered a firsthand look at Macao’s “tourism+” concept, which blends traditional attractions with innovative new experiences—an approach that will inspire the development of new tourism products designed for Japanese visitors.

Strengthening Macao’s Appeal to Japanese Tourists

Japan remains one of the top ten source markets for visitors to Macao, with daily flight services connecting Tokyo and Osaka to the destination. Since the lifting of border restrictions in 2023, the MGTO has been actively promoting Macao as an attractive travel destination for Japanese tourists, leveraging opportunities like this familiarization trip to enhance awareness and build lasting business relationships.

With a focus on mutual learning and business collaboration, this initiative marks a significant step towards expanding Macao’s presence in the Japanese tourism market, ensuring the region remains a sought-after destination for Japanese travelers.
