South African Airways (SAA) remains committed to supporting its valued customers as ongoing negotiations between SAA and the South African Airways Pilots’ Association (SAAPA) continue.
The frustration caused by disrupted travel plans is understood, and apologies are extended for any inconvenience experienced.
Customer patience, understanding, and support are greatly valued and appreciated. Efforts are being made by the dedicated SAA team to assist customers in reaching their destinations amidst the ongoing pilot strike.
Despite the difficulties, 39 of the 47 scheduled flights were successfully carried out on the first day of the strike. The flights to Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Mauritius, and Windhoek accounted for 51% of the scheduled flights. This covers 66% of domestic flights, 30% of regional services, and 33% of international connections.
SAA management continues to prioritize intercontinental routes, with particular focus on services to Perth and São Paulo. Plans to resume flights to Perth are currently being finalized, with operations expected to commence over the upcoming weekend.
Customers are being kept informed through continuous communication, and re-accommodation efforts are being coordinated. In collaboration with codeshare and Star Alliance partners, rebooking and travel arrangements are being facilitated. Furthermore, many passengers are being accommodated in hotels while alternative travel plans are being made.
