In 2025, Ecuador is set to unveil a host of groundbreaking tourism initiatives. This follows a consistent uptick in tourism revenues, attracting both local and global hospitality enterprises to invest in the nation’s tourism infrastructure. These developments include the introduction of new hotels and cruises, supplementing an existing array of 4,957 hotels and 15 cruise operations.

The Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador reports a visitor count exceeding 589,000 in just the first half of the year, with projections from Statista estimating a steady growth rate of 2.88% annually through 2029. This positions Ecuador as an increasingly prominent travel destination with substantial investments flowing into the tourism sector.

“By investing in Ecuador’s tourism sector, these brands are not just supporting our economy but contributing to the preservation of our natural heritage and offering visitors more ways to experience our beautiful country. These tourism projects will create local opportunities in Quito, the Galapagos, and Manabi, while establishing a benchmark for distinguished service.” Said Santiago Granda, Undersecretary of Promotion for the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador.

Expansion of the Hotel Industry In the year 2025, the hospitality landscape in Ecuador will grow through the addition of two new properties by Marriott International and the esteemed local brand, Oro Verde. While drawing international capital, Ecuador continues its commitment to conserving its natural landscapes, uplifting communities, and crafting distinctive tourist experiences.

One notable development is the Courtyard Hotel by Marriott Quito situated at Quito’s Airport, tailored to meet the needs of business travelers. Quito, the capital city, nestled among Andean peaks, boasts a rich cultural history and stunning vistas. It holds the honor of being the first city recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Scheduled to open in the summer of 2025, this new facility by SIXSTAR Hotels and Marriott International will feature 84 rooms, equipped with a gym, business center, meeting space, and a convenience market.

The Oro Verde Group is expanding its reach with the upcoming Hotel Oro Verde Portoviejo in the western Manabí Province, a short flight from Quito. Portoviejo, known for its vibrant culinary scene, is an attractive spot for gastronomy enthusiasts. The hotel, designed by CORREA + FATEHI – ODD Architects, is slated to open in spring 2025. It will offer 71 rooms, a rooftop pool with sweeping views, a modern gastrobar, ample event spaces, and a premier restaurant.

Luxury Cruising in the Galapagos The luxury cruise sector in the Galapagos is also growing with the introduction of the high-end Hermes Catamaran. Scheduled to launch in 2025, it features 12 spacious, transformable suites across its main and upper decks. These suites include private bathrooms, air conditioning, walk-in closets, mini bars, expansive windows, private balconies, and jacuzzis. The Hermes Catamaran will offer tours of key Galapagos islands such as Santa Cruz, Española, and Bartolomé. This vessel combines the opulence of larger ships with the personal feel of smaller ones, perfect for guests eager to delve into the unique landscapes and biodiversity of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

These initiatives for 2025 are indicative of a bright future for Ecuador’s tourism and hospitality industries, blending upscale hotel projects with pioneering cruise options to bolster its standing as a leading destination for both business and leisure travel.
